What is CAN?

CAN is a pro bono, entirely apolitical educational civil rights network up and down the length of the East Coast, the Midwest and Southwest of concerned citizens against the unacceptable behaviors and attitudes of anti-Semitism.

CAN Approach

CAN builds awareness and educates people to dampen the many shapes of anti-Semitism, including anti-Israel prejudices, as unacceptable ugliness.

We confront and challenge anti-Semitic reports/acts as we encounter them, both nationally and with particular reference to our local areas.

Our targets are the haters, the uninformed and the mis-informed who all too frequently harbor unconscious biases or unaware micro-aggressions.

We address anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism and anti-Israel acts and words through:

  • On- and off-line articles, social media posts, publicity in media, speeches and emails/outreach directly to politicians and elected officials - -  members of Congress, governors and mayors, influencers and other prominent voices and organizations.

  • We extend our reach to partners, allies and supporters from other groups across the nation  by sharing information, positions and tactics.

CAN Signature Initiative

The CAN Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Initiative for Corporate America

CAN works with major businesses and organizations to include a new anti-Semitism component in corporate DEI program:

  • Forward-looking corporations are broadening the definition of “inclusion” beyond race, educating about other “isms“, including anti-Semitism, to make workplaces even more safe, welcoming and inclusive.

  • CAN provides a short and concise educational pro bono presentation on the nature of anti-Semitism, filling a noticeable void in corporate America.

CAN Principles

  • Anti-Semitism is an absolute evil that cannot be parsed away.

  • Our messaging is civil, respectful but blunt. Shared humanity is the starting point for bridging divides.

  • We are a group of professional and business individuals, but we are not political - coming from the right, the left and center. We are party agnostic. We do not inveigh against one political party or group in favor of another.

  • Our community is a safe place in which others may participate and share.

  • We engage with and support efforts of other Jewish organizations and grassroots groups.

  • Every CAN  activity with every audience is completely pro bono. We also do not accept donations or money from any group, corporation or organization.

“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

- Elie Wiesel
